OneCoffee – 100% Compostable Coffee Pods and Brunch Offer [EVENT]
For coffee lovers, read past the jump for a fresh take on compostable coffee pods as well as an offer of a free brunch at Medina Cafe to learn more.
Canadians love their single-serve coffee pods, to the tune of over 1.5 billion brewed in homes and offices annually. Unfortunately, most of those pods are ecological dead-ends, ultimately filling up our dumps and landfills.
It is with this ongoing waste crisis in mind that OneCoffee announced the development of its latest brewing innovation: a 100% compostable single-serve coffee pod that will reduce the country’s coffee pod trash problem with a made-in-Canada solution.
OneCoffee 100% Compostable Coffee Pods:
“When we introduced OneCoffee in 2013, we had a lofty goal to create a 100% compostable, organic, fair trade, single-serve coffee that tasted great,” says Gary Senez, Senior Vice President of OneCoffee. “Over the course of four years, we’ve gone from 90% biodegradable to 99% biodegradable, all while promising our customers we wouldn’t rest until we hit our target. Today we’re thrilled to say we’ve fulfilled that promise with our single-serve pods’ 100% Compostable certification from the Biodegradable Products Institute.”
To achieve 100% Compostable designation from the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), a product like OneCoffee’s new single-serve pods must be made using only certified compostable materials and pass tests proving it degrades into organic matter.
OneCoffee’s new 100% compostable, Keurig-compatible coffee pods boast plant-based PLA resin that performs beautifully and breaks down easily under commercial composting conditions.
OneCoffee Pod Creation
But OneCoffee’s work isn’t done yet. While the pods are 100% commercially compostable, there are no applicable green-bin composting standards across Canada. OneCoffee is actively reaching out to municipal, provincial and federal agencies to advocate for a compostable strategy.
